The W-variant is made of alloy tool steel. In contrast to the X-option, it has a shorter tool life due to the 5 % lower hardness. However it is also less fragile in parallel. Knives of the W-variant are applicable for utilizations where the contact surface is no longer intact or there are impurities in the input.

Products of this version are hardened throughout, which means that this hardness remains persistent from the edge to the core. Due to that the wear is even in relation to its life cycle.

To avoid breakage and machine damage, it is crucial not to armour or weld on this type, as it will acutely weaken the structure.
