Comparatively, the W9-variation is softer than the X-option. In addition, the W9-version wears also faster. On the other hand, it has the advantage of increased toughness and is also resistant to impurities.

Due to the through-hardening process, there is a consistent hardness from the edge layer to the core. This ensures persistent wear over the tool life of the counter knife.

However, this variant must not be armoured or welded on, as it negatively influences the structure of the components. Consequently, fractures and machine damage are possible.
