Here you are offered a good compromise between resistance to wear and toughness.

In this option, the components are hardened from the edge layer to the core. This means that the stator knife wears steadily over its lifetime.

Hardfacing or welding on this variation should be avoided, as the structure will otherwise be acutely weakened. This can lead to breakages and machine damage.
